The central government requested the Sheikh Hashi Foundation that the land it owned in Kurtunwaarey district be financed by the World Bank to help the people under Hashi Foundation, and that work started in 1986. The ongoing work has been destroyed by the central government, and a part of the land has been prepared and is still working.

It also helped the people when the civil war started. Sheikh Hashi’s organization established camps for displaced people in Buulo Mareer and Mukay dumis areas and Kurtuwaarey district.

The Sheikh Hashi Foundation is the first organization to start a kitchen so that people can have enough food to live on, and it was awarded by the ICRC in 1992.

The ICRC and other aid agencies including MSF have been welcomed in the Lower Shabelle region, The Hashi Foundation has also worked to bring peace to the civil war in the Lower Shabelle region, and by conducting seminars for the people on how to prevent rape, robbery and looting of property as it had a large headquarters in the Lower Shabelle region, especially in the villages of Bulo Marer and Kurtunwarey, it was a place where the victims and the people displaced by the civil war found peace, as admitted by the ICRC and other aid agencies in the region.

The Sheikh Hashi Foundation also used to dig water wells to help the displaced people in those areas.
